At Busy Bees New Plymouth we have three age appropriate classrooms. Each space has their own separate outdoor area providing endless opportunities to explore the natural environment. We believe ngā tamariki – our children, learn best through a play-based approach in which we foster opportunities for each child to:

  • Establish and maintain relationships – Whakawhanaungatanga
  • Develop a positive sense of self – Mana Motuhake
  • Develop a wide range of communication skills – Mana Reo
  • Strengthen their sense of curiosity – Pātaitai
  • Develop problem solving skills – Whakaoti Rapanga
Taiao | Environment

The natural environment of Busy Bees New Plymouth allows children to spontaneously connect with Papatūānku right here in our own outdoor space. Tamariki take on the role of Kaitiakitanga, through this they learn various concepts like garden to table and sustainability. Connecting with nature is a favourite activity among our children at Busy Bees New Plymouth and therefore our outdoor play areas are open the whole day for children to run, jump, hide, create, and have fun!

Our Rooms

Te Henui & Huatoki Rooms (up to 2 years)
We are committed to the wellbeing of your pēpi and foster a sense of home right here at our centre. Teachers utilise āmiki (story telling), waiata (singing), kanikani (dancing), taiao (nature) whilst maintaining a focus on the aroha and care that infants need to thrive. Communicating with you every step of the way, we take special care to ensure your pēpi has a safe, secure, and encouraging environment for their growth and development.

Waimea Room (2-3 years)
We know big changes happen during this time like increased independence and more curious questions. Our kaiako welcome each toddler with open arms and patience. The environment is prepared to entice children’s curiosity and exploration where testing, trying and challenge is valued. We support childhood learning with a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and supportive of all children during this age of discovery and wonder.

Waiahakaiho (3-6 years)
Our preschool provides a rich learning environment focused on the tuākana (older children) of our centre ensuring they have the opportunity to develop confidence, independence and self-management all of which align with Te Whāriki (New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum) and the pathways to kura (school). Children are encouraged to care for others, the environment and their own belongings and are supported to understand their growing sense of responsibility for themselves and the world around them. While reading and writing materials are available to explore, the curriculum is emergent and discovery-based, with teachers observing and engaging with children to develop projects based on their interests.

Hapori whānui | Community

We celebrate whakawhanaungatanga (relationships) by connecting with our community through multicultural celebrations and creating a strong sense of belonging. Some of our community relationships include weekly Playball sessions and fortnightly Kapa haka with Whaea Rae. We also have the local library bus visit the centre fortnightly and often spend time at Chalmers Rest Home which the children and residents love. We are fortunate to be able to use our local walkway and park whenever possible.

Kai
Our Centre Cook lovingly prepares morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea daily. All of our Nourish menus are dietitian approved and have been thoughtfully designed following the New Zealand Food and Nutrition Guidelines and the Ministry of Health Healthy Eating for Babies, Toddlers and Children.

Curriculum
Our curriculum incorporates learning dispositions, the principles and goals of Aotearoa’s Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki, and competencies derived from Tātaiako. Our innovative learning environments are abundantly resourced with stimulating educational resources which complements the delivery of our local curriculum and educational programme. Our teachers are passionate about encouraging children's creativity, supporting their emerging social interactions, and celebrating their individual successes.

Testimonials

We absolutely love Busy Bees New Plymouth, as new parent the idea of leaving my son with someone else was very scary, but from the first day I could see that Zayden was loved and cared for. I am so glad that we decided to put Zayden in Busy Bees New Plymouth, he is learning so much, experiencing new things and making the best memories and meaking awesome friendships as he goes.

Parent Feedback

The teaching, management and support staff are friendly, efficient and supportive. The centre cares about and has tremendous respect for children and lets them follow their interests. They have a sun smart policy. Meals are provided for kids, and recently the menu has been more varied and diverse. Love the effort to improve the centre’s bicultural practice and to celebrate and acknowledge other cultures. The centre staff keep parents informed. Most importantly, my child has developed great social skills, is happy when she’s there and sometimes doesn’t want to leave when we pick her up.

Parent Feedback

The teachers all are so lovely and caring. Great to hear about their day and get the rundown of sleep times. Love the delicious meals they get.

Parent Feedback

Such an amazing, trustworthy, reassuring and respectful team. I have so much trust in leaving my baby in their care! The key teacher approach is a huge positive, my son loves his key teacher and as a first time mum it is so nice to know that he has that one special person, as well as interacting with his other teachers too. There is such a sense of community and family, I never feel uncomfortable in this environment I am always made to feel welcome.
